Goldman Sachs Executive to Send Off MFE Grads; New Begins March 28

Margaret Holen, a partner at Goldman Sachs since 2004, will give the commencement address for the 67 students graduating from the Berkeley Master of Financial Engineering (MFE) Program on March 18.

Holen, who joined Goldman Sachs in 1998, leads the client-focused structuring and analytics efforts in the firm's Securities Division and Investment Banking Division in the Americas. Her previous experience includes leading strategies groups in Americas Equities Trading, the Global Special Situations Group, Mortgage Sales and Trading, and Foreign Exchange Sales.

Holen also serves on the firm's Securities Division Business Practices and Divisional Risk committees, and is a member of the Investment Committees for the Goldman Sachs Reinsurance Group and the Goldman Sachs Foundation. Before joining Goldman Sachs, she worked in fixed-income derivatives and liability management at Lehman Brothers. She is a member of the Berkeley MFE Program's Advisory Committee.

“We are looking forward to Margaret sharing her many insights from a successful career,” says Linda Kreitzman, executive director of the MFE Program. “We are very thankful for her generosity in giving the MFE Program so much of her time over the years and in helping us build a close, valuable relationship with Goldman Sachs.”

The students will be the 10th class to graduate from the MFE Program, which also will celebrate its 10th anniversary during the graduation ceremony. Graduates are heading to jobs around the world with such firms as Barclay's Capital, Citi, Morgan Stanley, Nomura, and Société Générale.

Three days after the commencement, the MFE Program will welcome the 66 students that comprise the 11th class during an orientation week; classes will begin March 28.

Members of the 11th class hail from 19 countries, including Argentina, Iran, and Nigeria. In addition to banking, students bring experience from a wide range of firms and organizations, including the Greek Navy, Raytheon, Moody's, and CalPERS.

Thirty of the 41 new students who took the GRE received a perfect score on the quantitative section, and 30 students hold advanced degrees.
