Four Staff Members Honored for Embodying Defining Principles

Dean Rich Lyons honored four staff members Thursday for bringing to life the Haas School's four defining principles: Beyond Yourself; Question the Status Quo; Confidence Without Attitude; and Students Always.

The recipients of the 2010-2011 Outstanding Staff Awards were Siu Yung Wong, Tenny Frost, Kristen Romero, and Marco Lindsey. Each recipient received $400 and a framed certificate. The awards were presented at the Haas School's annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon at the Bancroft Hotel.

The winners of the staff awards, according to category, were:

+Beyond Yourself: Siu Yung Wong, Associate Director of Academic Affairs, Evening & Weekend MBA Program
Wong was called an "unwavering pillar of strength" who is always looking to serve students and keeping the interests of the school to heart. While taking on many new duties this past year, he still found the time to be a mentor and reduce costs in his department. A Cal graduate, Wong has worked at Haas since 2002.

+Question the Status Quo: Tenny Frost, Executive Director, Alumni Relations and Annual Giving
Frost was recognized for questioning the status quo in everything she does while she works tirelessly and creatively on behalf of Haas to expand services for alumni. Although she has worked at Haas since 1994, she makes it a practice of never repeating what is done in years past.

+Confidence Without Attitude: Kristen Romero, Academic Human Resources Analyst, Academic Affairs
Romero, a staff member at Haas since 2008, was recognized for being imaginative, articulate, thorough, and respectful. She has a reputation for making sure a job gets done thoroughly and has even physically run through the staff and faculty wings at Haas to hand deliver a file to a faculty member. She is constantly exploring how to solve old problems.

+Students Always: Marco Lindsey, Dean's Executive Office Assistant
Lindsey was recognized for constantly seeking out new opportunities to learn new skills. He has taken positions on Haas and campus committees while mentoring other staff members. In the past year, he stepped up to take on more responsibilities while a colleague was on leave. Lindsey, who came to Haas in 2007, is known for fostering collaboration and communication.
